Workout on an Empty Stomach?

Dec 12 / Build Muscle

Q: What's your opinion of working out on an empty stomach first thing in the morning?

Answer:
That's a great question.

It's no big deal to workout on an empty stomach. It won't get you extra fat burning results, but it won't have any negative consequences.

I used to recommend a small protein-carbohydrate snack before training, but Brad Pilon's ESE program has changed my opinion on that.

I originally made the suggestion to eat a small amount of protein and carbohydrates because back in University, it wasn't uncommon to see girls come in without eating and literally faint in the gym.

But I think those instances were extreme cases.

I personally now do mini-workouts (off day workouts) 2-3 times per week before eating but after a 90minute dog walk - first thing in the morning. And there's no problem.

And like dozens of other TT members, I've also done a workout while fasting for over 18 hours (on the day I used ESE). Again, no harm.

So if you want to get up, not eat, and workout, it's fine.
