You bench press, squat, and deadlift with a barbell—but this weekend's challenge will make you use the weight in all-new ways.
You'll perform overhead presses, pushups, and lateral hops with the bar. "Changing up how you use an exercise tool is a fun way to test your strength and challenge your muscles," says Todd Durkin, C.S.C.S., author of musclemorphosis.com. "For instance, performing a pushup with your hands on a barbell forces you to create tension throughout your entire body in order to keep the weight from rolling away. It's so much tougher than doing a pushup on the floor."
Ready to try it for yourself? Perform 10 barbell shoulder presses, 20 pushups, and 30 lateral hops over the barbell in a row without resting. That's 1 round. Repeat.
