The Obscure Deadlift You Must Try

Dec 12 / Build Muscle

The only place I can do this lift without drawing funny looks is the gym I coach at, musclemorphosis.com, and that's because we've made it standard practice there. It's called the Jefferson Deadlift, or the straddle deadlift (you see why, I presume), and it works your core like you would not, could not believe. Your legs and back, too, of course—it *is* a deadlift, after all.

I hold the IAWA women's world record in this lift with 300 pounds, and I largely credit this movement with solving some low-back pain I used to experience. How? Because it got me stronger in more directions. More on how to do the Jefferson and why the hell you'd want to at musclemorphosis.com [photo credit: musclemorphosis.com]
