The Dueling Pushup and Squat Challenge
For this week's fitness challenge, Todd Durkin, C.S.C.S., author of musclemorphosis.com keeps it sadistically simple. You'll alternate between two body-weight exercises—the pushup and the squat. Since the pushup blasts your upper body and the squat hammers your lower body, you won't fatigue as quickly as you would if both exercises taxed the same muscle groups. Because of this, Durkin expects you to push hard and go fast the entire time. Are you up for the challenge?
Here's how it works: Grab a stopwatch. Perform one repetition of the pushup, followed immediately by 10 reps of the squat. Without resting, do two reps of the pushup and nine reps of the squat. Continue to increase the number of pushups and decrease the number of squats by one rep every round. Your last round should consist of 10 pushups and one squat. By the time you're finished, you'll have completed a whopping 55 pushups and 55 squats.
